  • American Crows are large black birds with long legs, heavy, straight bills, dark eyes and short, squared off tails.
  • Some American Crows are migratory while others are year round residents in their range.
  • American Crows can be found in all of the lower 48 states in the U.S. and in southern Canada. The preferred habitats of American Crows include shorelines, fields, open woodlands, roadsides, marshes, dumps and towns.
  • The diets of American Crows include grains, corn, insects, carrion, fruits, eggs, small birds, snails, amphibians, toads, small rodents, earthworms, and seeds.
  • American Crows lay 3 to 7 eggs which hatch in 18 days. Both sexes incubate and they are monogamous.
  • A group of crows can be called a “congress”, “horde”, “cauldron”, “muster” or “murder” of crows.
  • Wild American Crows can live to be more than 16 years of age.
