Mimus gundlachii

  • Bahama Mockingbirds are medium sized with gray-brown upperparts, pale gray underparts with dark streaks, white tipped long tails, dark wings with two white bars and white feather edges.
  • Bahama Mockingbirds are nonmigratory. They breed in the Bahamas, the northern coast of Cuba and along the Jamaican coast. They are rare but regular visitors to Florida. They prefer dry scrub habitats.
  • Bahama Mockingbirds eat insects, berries, fruits, spiders and small reptiles.
  • Bahama Mockingbirds lay 2 to 6 eggs which hatch in 12 to 13 days. The females incubate and they are monogamous.
  • A group of mockingbirds can be called a “echo”, “exactness” or “ridicule” of mockingbirds.
