Mia, this is my absolute favorite aspect of tern behavior! We have Caspians here who fly around the Port of Seattle and I’m hampered a tad by the backdrop and my camera’s fidgeting AF on busy backgrounds. But when that spin around happens, as you portray it here, it brings me such joy – the turn, the shake off, the aerobatic nature of it all.

I was just at the Ex Officio store here in Seattle today, asking them about their no-see-um-repellant clothing. A curlew in flight is a sight to behold, regardless. But what a beautiful picture of that moment!

Very beautiful! It’s nice to view the Willet in breeding plumage. I’ve only seen them during the winter season.
