  • Tree Swallows are medium-sized swallows with white underparts and iridescent blue upperparts, they have forked tails, dark eyes and bills.
  • Tree Swallows are migratory and they winter further north than other North American Swallows.
  • During the breeding season Tree Swallows prefer habitat includes marshes, fields, meadows, shorelines, ponds, and wooded swamps. They nest in cavities in trees and man made nest boxes.
  • Tree Swallows feed mostly on insects caught in flight. They also eat seeds, berries and spiders.
  • Tree Swallows lays 4 to 6 eggs which hatch in 13 to 16 days. The females incubate and they are polygamous.
  • A group of Tree Swallows is known as a “stand” of swallows.
  • Tree Swallows can live to be more than 12 years of age.
