Juvenile Northern Harrier – Nikon D810, f6.3, 1/1000, ISO 320, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light, not baited
When yesterday morning dawned there were clear skies and cool temps and Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge was calling. What can I say, I listened! On the auto tour route thousands and thousands of Tundra Swans were calling and sitting out on the ice or feeding in the open water. I took a short cell phone video. Â (turn up your volume)
I did see a few Rough-legged Hawks that were skittish and so were the ducks in the area and maybe now that hunting season is over the ducks will settle down some. I also saw a Coyote on the way to the auto tour route.
On the way out of the refuge in an area I have heard called Curlew Flats I spotted this juvenile Northern Harrier on the ground and was able to take a few images of it before it lifted off with prey in its talons.
It was a beautiful day.
