American White Waterlily and a Honey Bee – Nikon D70, handheld, f5.6, 1/320, ISO 250, Nikkor 70-300mm VR at 300mm, natural light
Once upon a time I paid more attention to wildflowers and insects and photographed them extensively when I had the chance so today I thought I would resurrect one of my old files.
This image was taken at Sawgrass Lake Park in Pinellas County Florida in July of 2007 with my first DSLR, the Nikon D70. The light was low because of clouds overhead and because of the trees over my head. I had to be careful because there were alligators lurking in the lake and when they are underwater they can be very hard to see so I didn’t want to get too close to the water’s edge.
The beauty of the native American White Waterlily drew me to Sawgrass Lake Park quite often those days and when they were close to the water’s edge I could smell their fragrant perfume. I wasn’t the only one though because bees love to visit them too.
Then I started focusing more on photographing birds and the rest; as they say… is history.
Life is good.

You give me hope when I see what we as “intelligent” beings are doing to the earth for no good reason, even wantonly or just because
it is easier than thinking things through., Often we do harm just because we can…just because.
It is Easter and the earth in the Northern Hemisphere is awakening to lushness…may we appreciate it and love it. Hope.
