First of year photo of a juvenile Loggerhead ShrikeFirst of year photo of a juvenile Loggerhead Shrike – Nikon D810, f8, 1/800, ISO 400, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light

On the 20th of May I saw my first of the year Loggerhead Shrike fledglings but it wasn’t until the 24th that I was able to photograph this young shrike.  I’ve looked through my archives and the earliest I have photographed fledgling Loggerhead Shrikes on Antelope Island State Park previously was June 10 so they might be fledging about two to three weeks earlier than most years.

I will be seeing more of these little wannabe raptors soon.

Life is good.
