Cassin’s Finches

Yesterday started off foggy but there were a few breaks in the fog early on and once when that happened there was a “charm” of Cassin’s Finches feeding on Dandelion seeds within range. A group of finches is sometimes called a “company”, “trembling” or “charm” of finches. These Cassin’s Finches charmed me for sure.

Cassin’s Finch males look to me like they have been dipped in raspberry juice and that color is very vibrant especially in sweet light.
There were more males than females feeding on the seed heads but I did take a few images of the females too that I will post at a later date.

The Centennial Valley continues to delight and amaze me with the variety of birds that call it home and I hope to see many more before I head back to Utah.
Yesterday I was glad to observe and photograph these Cassin’s Finches of the Centennial Valley of Montana.

Love that hair do. And the colour.
Great images of a cute saucy looking little bird…love the raised crest and how similar their feet resemble the wrapped barbs of the wire…especially like tye first with the wood and lichens…hope all is going well, birds,weather, Ron and gear cooperating!!!
