Sibling Burrowing OwlsSibling Burrowing Owls – Nikon D810, f7.1, 1/2500, ISO 500, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light

Yesterday while wandering around in northern Utah I spotted an adult and then 5 sibling Burrowing Owls also showed up to perch on an old fence line. They were adorable but the sun was already high in the sky so I wasn’t happy with many of the images due to the contrasty light and dark shadows but I thought I would share an image with two of the owlets in it.

Burrowing Owl populations are on the decline in the west because of habitat destruction with a subsequent increase in mammalian predation.

Maybe we can stop the decline in their population if we stop building near their habitat, stop killing the prairie dogs and stop using pesticides and rodenticides.  Maybe.
