Young Sage Thrasher hiding in Sage – Nikon D810, f8, 1/1250, ISO 400, +0.3 EV, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light
There are loads of young Sage Thrashers on Antelope Island at the moment so it seems their first broods were fairly successful. I’ve noticed small groups of teenaged thrashers chasing each other around and congregating in the same locations, these birds might be siblings or they might not but I found the social behavior interesting. Some of these young birds seem shy and hide in bushes with only their heads sticking out like the one in my image above.
I know that many bird photographers prefer to be able to see the whole bird without being hidden by obstructing vegetation in their images but there there are times I prefer to photograph “hidden treasures” that show only a portion of the bird in their native habitats.

I love the “whole bird” images,but must admit, I like these kind of behavioral shots, and the comments/info that go along with them even better….
Based on what you’ve said, I’d call this a behavioral shot rather than seeing it as just part of a bird.
