Yesterday was the first day of National Moth Week 2015 and the featured family of moths for this year are from the Sphingidae family which are commonly know as hawk moths, sphinx moths and hornworms. I don’t see many moths here in Utah but I do see White-lined Sphinx Moths when the Rocky Mountain Bee Plants are in bloom.

Last year I was able to take quite a few images of these sphinx moths while I photographed hummingbirds at the bee plants. I haven’t seen as many bee plants this year as I did last year but I still hope to photograph the moths and hummingbirds in a few weeks.

National Moth Week? Didn’t know there was such a thing…tell that to the bug zappers, who think mosquitoes are attracted to lights…yeah, right! I get as much pleasure watching these guys feed as their look-alikes, the hummingbirds…lbeautiful image….
