Killdeer in morning light at Farmington Bay WMA, Davis County, UtahA Killdeer in morning light – Nikon D810, f6.3, 1/1600, ISO 400, -0.3 EV, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light

I believe that the first shorebirds I ever noticed as a very young girl were Killdeer and I think I noticed them mostly because they were so noisy. They hung around parking lots and I’d find them quite in fields and pastures. They sure got my attention.

This time of the year our Killdeer population seems to explode because the birds that nested further north are migrating into the area. I photographed this Killdeer two weeks ago at Farmington Bay WMA and liked the fall colors in the background and the bird’s muddy bill.

The great news is that I finally have my camera back in my hands and I am anxious to get back out into the field. I’m so happy I could dance!

Life is good.
