Barn Swallow in a fogBarn Swallow in a fog – Nikon D810, f6.3, 1/800, ISO 640, +0.7 EV, Nikkor 500mm VR with 1.4x TC, natural light

I’m hearing reports of Western Grebes and Sandhill Cranes migrating into the Salt Lake Valley and I suppose it won’t be very long before I hear the first reports of swallows migrating in too.

Last year I photographed nesting Barn Swallows in the Centennial Valley of Montana and in the Targhee National Forest of Clark County, Idaho. I had forgotten about photographing this Barn Swallow in a fog at the Lower Lake of Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge until I was going through my archives yesterday. It was one of those mornings where I thought the fog and the moisture in the air accentuated the colors in the birds plumage quite naturally.

Lake fog isn’t uncommon in the Centennial Valley and there are times that I find images of my subjects in the fog very appealing.

Life is good.
