When I lived in Florida one of my great joys was to be at Fort De Soto County Park’s north beach before the sun rose over the horizon and to be there even before the first bit of color touched the clouds. I’d sit alone and listen to the waves wash up on the shore in the darkness with my feet in the cool sand and breathe in the salty air. I did that to center myself and often times I’d feel at such peace that I almost didn’t want the day to begin.
Dawn would always would break and the sun always rose and if I was lucky I could witness a sunrise as colorful as the flames in a fire. It was a glorious way to start my day.

Yes. I too centre myself in the predawn. And rarely see a sunrise as large and as brilliant as that one. Thank you.
I grew up on the East Coast just a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean – and am now land-locked n Iowa. I miss proximity to the ocean terribly. However, since childhood, I have noted that simply being AT the shore always sweeps peace over me – a sweet scent of salt air, better and deeper breathing, absence of pains, and practically no intellectual activity. It is complete relaxation – and I would like to know sometime its physiological bases. I see many other have had similar experiences.

What a beautiful image! How I miss the big sky sunrises and sunsets! I know the feeliing of reluctance mixed with anticipation as early morning’s serenity is threatened by the dawning of a new day and all its hustle and bustle…
