Quiscalus quiscula<\/em><\/p>\n\n- Male Common Grackles have yellow eyes, glossy black plumage with blue to purple iridescence. Females are about half the size of males and are a rich brown.<\/li>\n
- The range of Common Grackles is rapidly expanding. Historically, they were found as far north as southern Texas, but now they have been observed as far north as southern Montana<\/span>. Common Grackles are migratory.<\/li>\n
- Common Grackles can be found in a variety of habitats, including fields, marshes, agricultural and urban areas, farmyards, feedlots, forests, chaparral, parks, and neighborhood lawns. They are commonly found in the southwest, Texas, the Great Plains, and now the Great Basin up towards Montana, then south into Mexico and Central America<\/span>.<\/li>\n
- Common Grackles are omnivorous and have a diverse diet. They eat grains, fruits, and in the summer, they also eat insects, bees, wasps, snails, worms, slugs, moths, small mammals, frogs, lizards, fish, bird eggs, and nestlings. They are also known to scavenge for food dropped in urban area<\/span><\/li>\n
- Common Grackles lay 4 to 7 eggs, which take 12 to 14 days to hatch. The female incubates the eggs<\/span>.<\/li>\n
- Common Grackles can live up to 13 years.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
