Buteo lineatus<\/i><\/p>\n\n- Red-shouldered Hawks are medium sized hawks with reddish barred breasts, dark and white checkered wings, black and white banded tails and large eyes. As juvenile their eyes are lighter colored, plumage is dark above and light below. Adults and and immature birds show a reddish patch of plumage on their shoulders.<\/li>\n
- Red-shouldered Hawks are resident to medium distance migrants.<\/li>\n
- Red-shouldered Hawks are found in forested areas including hardwood stands, flooded swamps, mixed deciduous forests and riparian woodlands.<\/li>\n
- Red-shouldered Hawks eat mammals, snakes, lizards, crayfish, toads, frogs and occasionally birds.<\/li>\n
- Red-shouldered Hawks lay 2 to 6 eggs which hatch in 32 to 40 days. Both sexes incubate and they are monogamous.<\/li>\n
