Capitol Reef National Park, established in 1971, protects a striking landscape of canyons, cliffs, domes, and natural bridges in the heart of south-central Utah\u2019s red rock country.<\/li>\n
The park spans over 240,000 acres along the Waterpocket Fold, a nearly 100-mile geologic monocline where layers of rock have been lifted and folded through eons of tectonic activity. This dramatic formation creates a living canvas of color, texture, and time.<\/li>\n
Within its rugged boundaries thrive desert bighorn sheep, mule deer, coyotes, bats, lizards, and an array of bird species such as canyon wrens, rock wrens, golden eagles, and peregrine falcons. The Fremont River winds through the park, nourishing riparian corridors lined with cottonwoods and willows and sustaining the historic orchards planted by early Mormon settlers in the Fruita Valley.<\/li>\n
Echoes of ancient peoples still linger here. The Fremont Culture, who lived in the region nearly a thousand years ago, left behind petroglyphs carved into sandstone cliffs, silent stories of life and survival in this desert realm. Their artistry endures alongside the timeless rhythm of wind and stone that continues to shape the land.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
