While I was at my local pond three days ago this Pied-billed Grebe<\/span><\/a> in breeding plumage caught my eyes because of its attitude. The grebe came in so close to where I was standing at the edge of the pond that I wasn’t sure that I would be able to focus on it.<\/p>\n

Camera lenses like mine have a minimum focusing distance and if a bird is closer than that distance the camera can’t focus.<\/p>\n

The Pied-billed Grebes at my local pond won’t stick around much longer because it is almost breeding season for them. There isn’t enough vegetation or cover for these grebes to nest at my local pond so they will leave to find better nesting grounds nearby.<\/p>\n

Perhaps some time during this breeding season I will find very young Pied-billed Grebe chicks that I can photograph somewhere in northern Utah. I would truly enjoy that.<\/p>\n
