Cute baby Uinta Ground Squirrel images have become a yearly tradition and desire for me and this week the babies were emerging from their burrows. I was high in the Wasatch Mountains where I had seen quite a few adult ground squirrels scurrying around. When I saw a tiny head pop up from a burrow next to the road I stopped immediately. Then I had a blast taking photos of the baby ground squirrels peeking at me.<\/p>\n

Uinta Ground Squirrel<\/span><\/a> babies don’t stay little long. I always feel an urgency to photograph them as early in the spring as I can.<\/p>\n

I watched this young Uinta Ground Squirrel eating some of the grass it plucked from the ground in front of its feet. The ground squirrel watched me watching it. Even as babies these squirrels pay attention all the time because of predators on the ground and in the sky.<\/p>\n

I could have stayed longer with the baby ground squirrels than I did but a noisy vehicle drove by about the same time as a jogger went past and the young squirrels dove into their burrows for safety.<\/p>\n

Life is<\/em> good.<\/p>\n
