This morning I am highlighting an American Lotus in bloom that I photographed yesterday in a slough at Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge<\/span><\/a> in Oklahoma.<\/p>\n

\"AmericanAmerican Lotus in bloom \u2013 Canon R7, f8, 1\/1600, ISO 1000, -0.7 EV, Canon RF 100-500 mm at 428m, natural light<\/span><\/p>\n

American Lotus<\/span><\/a>, Nelumbo lutea<\/em>, is a species of flowering plant in the family Nelumbonaceae. Common names include yellow lotus, water-chinquapin, and vol\u00e9e. It is native to North America.<\/p>\n

There are several locations on the refuge where American Lotus grows and is abundant.<\/p>\n

I hadn’t yet shared any of the wildflowers I have seen and photographed in Arkansas or Oklahoma and I thought I would feature the bloom of this aquatic plant. They are gorgeous.<\/p>\n

In some spots on the refuge both lotus and waterlily are found. I haven’t seen any blooming waterlilies yet.<\/p>\n

This particular lotus blossom was in the same area where I photographed the two White-tailed Deer does with the young fawn<\/span><\/a> several days ago.<\/p>\n

Life is<\/em> good.<\/p>\n
