Often, they would take flight before Steve and I reached this tree, but we could still observe them from a distance. Their nest, located a distance from the road, was within their line of sight from where they perched in this tree. These eagles could keep an eye on their young from this tree and look for fish in the river at the same time.

I didn’t photograph many raptors at the refuge, but I appreciated seeing and photographing the Bald Eagles, young Black Vultures, and an immature Red-shouldered Hawk.

During my journey to help my mom transition from this plane of life to the next, I also spotted Bald Eagles and Ospreys in Virginia.
