This morning, I’m sharing a photo of a White-breasted Nuthatch taken in June from my friend Steve Creek<\/span><\/a>‘s wonderfully bird-filled yard in Arkansas.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

By sitting on Steve’s deck and using it as a blind, the birds that came into the feeder were aware of us but became comfortable with our presence. We could usually hear<\/span><\/a> the White-breasted Nuthatch calling from the mature pine trees in Steve’s yard before it flew in to the feeder.<\/p>\n

I was excited to have this species in my viewfinder because even though we have them in Northern Utah, I hadn’t taken photos of them here. Being up close to these black, gray, and white nuthatches was thrilling for me. Sharing the experience with Steve while we sat on his deck, drinking coffee and chatting, was a joy.<\/p>\n

This species visited my garden in Virginia, but that was before I became a bird photographer. Steve’s yard attracts quite a few different bird species, and I was delighted that these nuthatches were among them.<\/p>\n

Even now, over a month after I returned to Utah from Arkansas, I can still vividly visualize and hear these nuthatches in my mind. These nuthatches left such a strong impression on me.<\/p>\n

There were times when I heard several White-breasted Nuthatches calling loudly from the trees in Steve’s yard. On a few occasions, I could see two of them chasing each other around, either in the treetops or lower down on the tree trunks.<\/p>\n

Being in Arkansas, visiting Steve and his dog Rosie, and having him graciously and unselfishly share all the birds in his wonderful yard was a gift I truly appreciate. You are an amazing friend, Creek. Thank you.<\/p>\n

Life is<\/em> good.<\/p>\n
