When I took this photo of a Canada Goose at an urban pond close to home several years ago, I loved the fall colors in the background behind the goose. I’m not sure why it as taken me so long to share this image.<\/p>\n

At home, during the summer, I don’t hear the Canada Geese flying by very often. As summer transitions into fall, I begin to hear them more frequently. I love to listen to their calls<\/span><\/a> as they fly past.<\/p>\n

I keep my living room window open, even during the high temperatures of summer, because I love listening to the neighborhood birds. For the same reason, I also keep my window open when the temperatures start dropping in the fall. It keeps me connected to nature.<\/p>\n

Because I keep my window open, I can hear the geese in the wee hours of the morning heading towards the local ponds and the Jordan River. It’s as if I’m hearing the passage of time or the changing seasons of the year.<\/p>\n

This year, I have felt out of sync, partly due to having spent almost two months away from Utah, taking care of my mom and handling her end-of-life affairs. I’ve been hoping that with the arrival of fall, that I would begin to feel more in sync with nature. I can’t say that it’s happening, but to be fair, I haven’t been out in the field since fall arrived.<\/p>\n

With the arrival of autumn, I am excited about the prospects of fall migration and the opportunity to see and photograph more ducks, geese, and other birds in cooler temperatures. I enjoy every season and the changes that comes with them.<\/p>\n

Life is<\/em> good.<\/p>\n
