\"FrostFrost covered Farmington Bay<\/span><\/p>\n

I have mentioned in recent posts that winter can be harsh in the Salt Lake Valley in posts with images I had taken at Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area<\/span><\/a> so I wanted to share these two images taken there yesterday.<\/p>\n

This image shows the hoar frost covered trees, cattails and an iced over pond. The temps were warmer yesterday by a few degrees than they had been, earlier in the week the lowest I saw was -12F and yesterday it was -1F.<\/p>\n

The hoar frost\u00a0is actually quite thick first thing in the morning and as the sun rises it flakes off slowly from the items it has attached to. Somewhere behind the lake fog in the background is Antelope Island State Park in the distance.<\/p>\n

The hoar frost\u00a0always reminds\u00a0me of the “Snow Queen” written by Hans Christian Andersen and published in 1845. I remember reading the book several times as a child and the visualizations I had in my mind from reading that book seemed to come alive the first time I saw\u00a0Farmington Bay\u00a0coated in frost.<\/p>\n

The birds of Farmington Bay\u00a0Waterfowl Management Area are also covered in frost in those early morning hours. It is a harsh environment in the winter but it is definitely beautiful.<\/p>\n
