Today, I am sharing more Red-bellied Woodpecker photos that I took while visiting my friend Steve Creek<\/span> <\/a>and his dog Rosie in his birdy Arkansas yard and garden.<\/p>\n

\"CloseClose up Red-bellied Woodpecker male<\/span><\/p>\n

I didn’t see any Red-bellied Woodpeckers in Utah while I lived there. Red-bellied Woodpeckers are nonmigratory, so I would not have expected to find them in that state. After checking on eBird, I don’t see any reported sightings in Utah.<\/p>\n

I did have these beautiful woodpeckers in my own garden in Virginia, where I lived out in the country near the Chesapeake Bay. I had Downy, Hairy, Red-bellied, and Pileated Woodpeckers, as well as Northern Flickers from the woodpecker family there. Red-headed Woodpeckers might have visited my garden, but if they did, I can’t recall that information.<\/p>\n

I’ve always enjoyed seeing members of the woodpecker family, observing their behavior, and, after becoming a bird photographer, having them in my viewfinder. Seeing Red-bellied and Pileated Woodpeckers once again has been a treat for me.<\/p>\n

I really didn’t know how much I had missed them until I traveled back to Virginia and Arkansas last year. I still haven’t gotten the photos I have wanted of Pileated Woodpeckers, but I plan on working on that very soon. And if I can add more Hairy and Red-headed Woodpecker photos, all the better, I’d say!<\/p>\n

It makes me happy to have these handsome birds in my viewfinder anytime, anywhere.<\/p>\n
