I took photos of Slaty Skimmer dragonflies the other day at Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge<\/span><\/a> in Oklahoma and wanted to share them with you all.<\/p>\n

I had never photographed Slaty Skimmer dragonflies before, so these were odonata lifers for me. I felt fortunate to also be able to take images of a female of this species, who wasn’t very far away from the male in my images.<\/p>\n

The first image in the gallery shows a male perched on the ripening seed pod of an American Lotus. The next four photos show the same male perched on the same lotus flower bud, with me moving to show different backgrounds. I like all of the backgrounds I selected to share here today.<\/p>\n

The last image is of a female Slaty Skimmer dragonfly<\/span><\/a>. She has the same general shape as the male, but what a difference in her colors and patterns!<\/p>\n

Birds will always be my primary passion when it comes to my photography but there is so much beauty in nature that I can’t and don’t resist photographing all the wonders that I see. These dragonflies caught my eye and I adore other things with wings!<\/p>\n
