Heading down the mountain to the cave is tricky because of the loose rocks on the trail.<\/p>\n<p>And yes, since you hike down the trail to get there, you have to hike back up it to return to your vehicle. I&#8217;ve read it was originally a root cellar, which makes sense. I also read that, during Prohibition, legend says the cave became a hideout for bootleggers transporting moonshine.<\/p>\n<p>But apparently, there isn\u2019t any proof of that. Well, if it was a secret only the bootleggers knew, maybe the proof died off with them.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fusion-video fusion-youtube fusion-aligncenter\" style=\"--awb-max-width:950px;--awb-max-height:534px;--awb-width:100%;--awb-margin-bottom:24px;\" itemscope itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/VideoObject\"><meta itemprop=\"duration\" content=\"PT8S\" \/><meta itemprop=\"name\" content=\"Moonshiners Cave, Arkansas, November 12, 2024\" \/><meta itemprop=\"description\" content=\"A hike down a mountainside in Arkansas to Moonshiners Cave. For me going up the trail was harder because I have an enlarged heart from a chronic illness. Steve does great at hiking uphill. Me? Not so much. My heart was damaged by Lupus in 1996 and that caused my heart to enlarge, which means hiking up hill is taxing for me physically.<\/p>\n<p>Still, I am very glad to have seen and photographed Moonshiners Cave. Will I go again?
