Sawgrass Lake Park<\/span><\/a> in Pinellas County, Florida is a wonderful location for birds and other things with wings including Eastern Pondhawk dragonflies. The 400 acre park is in a densely population area in St. Petersburg and has one of the largest maple swamps on the west coast of Florida and is one of the locations on the Great Florida Birding Trail.<\/p>\n

There are several ponds in the park and by walking around them I was often able to get close to and photograph the dragonflies found there.<\/p>\n

Eastern Pondhawks feed on other insects including mosquitos and any thing that eats biting insects is a hero in my mind because I hate being bitten. Eastern Pondhawks are sexually dimorphic with the males being blue and the females are green.<\/p>\n

Even though my passion is photographing birds I also enjoy photographing other animals I find along the way.<\/p>\n
