Their markers are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onthewingphotography.com\/wings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/C_of_A_0669-55299_1839861.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">U974<\/span><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onthewingphotography.com\/wings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/C_of_A_0669-42987_1839862.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">U961<\/span><\/a> and I reported that information to the USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center Bird Banding Laboratory and two days ago I received information about these two Tundra Swans.<\/p>\n<p>They were both banded and had neck collars placed on them on July 28, 2010 at the Northwest Arctic Borough, Alaska as adult birds. Right now they are at least 7 years old.<\/p>\n<p>What I find intriguing (and touching) is that these two pens (females) were banded on the same day and the same location and when I refound them they were in flight together in the same location at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fws.gov\/refuge\/bear_river_migratory_bird_refuge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload aligncenter wp-image-20928 size-full\" title=\"Tundra Swan banding info\" src=\"https:\/\/www.onthewingphotography.com\/wings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/tundra-swan-info-mia-mcpherson.jpg\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/www.onthewingphotography.com\/wings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/tundra-swan-info-mia-mcpherson.jpg\" alt=\"Tundra Swan banding info\" width=\"900\" height=\"1356\" srcset=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%27%20width%3D%27900%27%20height%3D%271356%27%20viewBox%3D%270%200%20900%201356%27%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%27900%27%20height%3D%271356%27%20fill-opacity%3D%220%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.onthewingphotography.com\/wings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/tundra-swan-info-mia-mcpherson-166x250.jpg 166w, https:\/\/www.onthewingphotography.com\/wings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/tundra-swan-info-mia-mcpherson-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.onthewingphotography.com\/wings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/tundra-swan-info-mia-mcpherson-680x1024.jpg 680w, https:\/\/www.onthewingphotography.com\/wings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/tundra-swan-info-mia-mcpherson.jpg 900w\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-orig-sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is a screen shot composite of both Certificate of Appreciation for reporting the banded swans. I&#8217;m not sure why the certificates say &#8220;Whistling Swans&#8221; instead of Tundra Swans but Whistling is the old name for this swan species.<\/p>\n<p>I guess these two Tundra Swans have heard that &#8220;birds of a feather flock together&#8221;.
