Early last week while photographing Western Kingbirds I also had the opportunity to photograph a Willow Flycatcher that was hanging around the same area on Antelope Island State Park<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Willow Flycatchers are small compared to the Western Kingbirds I was also watching at only 5.1 to 6.7 inches in length and 0.4 to 0.6 ounces.<\/p>\n

I had not seen Willow Flycatchers in the area where I photographed this one before but our wet May might be the reason I saw this one since they prefer moist shrubby areas and it was certainly wet on the island at that time.<\/p>\n

Because I spotted this bird during spring migration, I suspect though that the flycatcher moved on to a more suitable breeding ground after I photographed it because I haven’t seen a Willow Flycatcher in the area since.<\/p>\n

I wish I had been a bit closer to this Willow Flycatcher<\/span><\/a> but I was happy to photograph it any way.<\/p>\n
