\"ImmatureImmature American Barn Owls in an old trailer – Nikon D200, f7.1, 1\/60, lens on my Noodle, ISO 400, -1.7 EV, Nikkor 200-400mm VR with 1.4x TC at 400mm, natural light, not baited<\/span><\/p>\n

I really, really, really wish these young American Barn Owls on Antelope Island had been perched on something that looked more natural than old bent metal with droppings all over it but I have been taking images of them any way. You can see four birds in this image, there was one more off to the right side of the frame and another bird had taken flight. A “Jackpot” of American Barn Owls for sure.<\/p>\n

The interior of this trailer is always dark and because the birds are so light I had to use -1.7 in order to not blow the lights of the owls out. I rested my lens on my “Noodle” for stability and fired in bursts to get a few sharp shots. Shutter speed was very low but the lens support truly helped. I applied a small amount of Noise Reduction to the dark areas in the background because a little bit of noise was creeping in.<\/p>\n

Someday I hope to get American Barn Owl juveniles perched on natural features but until then the images I took of this group will keep me inspired.<\/p>\n
