Yesterday marked the Migratory Bird Treaty Act 100th Anniversary and that is really important to me as a bird photographer. If the Migratory Bird Treaty Act had not been instituted and signed I wouldn’t be seeing all of the migratory birds I photograph today.<\/p>\n

Prior to the Migratory Bird Treat Act birds were killed without any thought of conservation, species disappeared and became extinct because it was thought they would always be there. We know better than that today. We said goodbye to the Passenger Pigeon<\/span><\/a>, the Heath Hen, the Carolina Parakeet and the Great Auk<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Today I see and photograph the birds that I share here on my blog and my photo galleries<\/span><\/a> in part because the Migratory Bird Treaty Act helped to save the birds that migrate across international borders and to conserve habitat for them. The Migratory Bird Treaty Act has been monumentally successful and we need to insure that it continues and not allow the treaty to become weakened.<\/p>\n

We need birds. The birds need us.<\/p>\n<\/div>
