Near the end of October I photographed several Brewer’s Blackbirds at Farmington Bay WMA and among them was a bird that puzzled me a bit.<\/p>\n

Within the flock of blackbirds there was a female Brewer’s Blackbird that drew my attention to her because she had light colored eyes and stood out from the other females that were nearby. I hoped that she was a Rusty Blackbird female but when I compared images, key ID features and illustrations in my field guides, birding apps and photos of female Rusty Blackbirds on line I realized that the bird I photographed was not a rare (for here) Rusty Blackbird but what I believe to be a light-eyed form Brewer’s Blackbird female.<\/p>\n

I would have loved for her to be a female Rusty Blackbird because that would have been a lifer for me but a female Brewer’s Blackbird with light eyes is fairly uncommon and I’m happy I took just a few images of her.<\/p>\n
