When I lived in Florida me and my best friend Patty used to go to parks, gardens and other locations where there were plenty of bees, flowers and dragonflies to aim our cameras at. We had such great fun that at times we laughed ourselves silly. We called our photographic journeys together “splorin” and we still call it that to this day when we talk on the phone.<\/p>\n

I still photograph dragonflies whenever I get the chance, I love these mosquito-eating things with wings! Two days ago at Glover Pond there were several Eight-spotted Skimmer dragonflies that I aimed my lens at and of those I liked this head on shot the most. I know it doesn’t show the “eight spots” on the wings of this species but it does show the eyes of the dragonfly off nicely. I wish I would have had just a touch more depth of field to have the tip of the cattail sharply in focus. I like the background a lot though.<\/p>\n

Like some of the bird species I photograph I only see these dragonflies for a short period of the year so I try to take advantage of their presence when I can.<\/p>\n
