Two days ago while near the Weber River up in Summit County I heard a familiar sound and I knew from that sound that a Spotted Sandpiper was nearby.<\/p>\n

I heard the song over the sounds of rushing water and loud vehicles moving on the I-84 interstate.<\/p>\n

It isn’t that the songs of of Spotted Sandpipers are that loud it is because I have trained<\/em> my ears to listen for bird songs and calls.<\/p>\n

I looked around and spotted the Spotted Sandpiper bobbing its bottom up and down while perched on a log in the rushing river swollen from spring run off.<\/p>\n

The Spotted Sandpiper was farther away than I would have liked but any time I get to photograph these sandpipers is a good time for me.<\/p>\n

I used to see them in Florida when I lived there but they weren’t in breeding plumage like this one is.<\/p>\n

Even though the Spotted Sandpiper is small in the frame in my photo I like this image because it shows the habitat along with the bird.<\/p>\n

Hopefully sometime this year I will be able to obtain closer images of this species that always makes me smile because of their bouncing butts and their flute-like song.<\/p>\n
