Luke’s SWOT Analysis<\/h2>\n

Okay, so you may be wondering who Luke is? Luke is my youngest grandchild, he is 11, he is in 5th grade and he lives in North Carolina. One of his class assignments this year was to do a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats<\/span>) Analysis on one of the environments in the world and he decided to do the Desert because his Oma, me, lives in a desert environment.<\/p>\n

Luke worked hard on the diorama for his project, this photo shows Luke working on the diorama in their kitchen.<\/p>\n

I love how Luke used paper bags to mimic the red rock formations found in some of Utah’s deserts! It may be hard to see at this size but the diorama has a snake, bighorn sheep ram, prairie dog, roadrunner, and a coyote in it along with the sand, rocks, and cacti.<\/p>\n

Luke’s Desert SWOT Analysis<\/p><\/div>\n

Luke’s SWOT Analysis was a big part of the assignment and his teacher, Maria Ramirez, shared a photo of his paper with his father who shared it with me.<\/p>\n

The Desert<\/span>
\nThis ecosystem is mostly dry, the place that most animals get their water is by rain or plants. Plants collect and store the water and use it for themselves. Plants are also a producer, they produce food for a herbivore or omnivore. These herbivores and omnivores serve as a consumer in an ecosystem. When a consumer dies a decomposer usually eats it. Scavengers usually look for anything dead, then they eat it. Some biotic factors of the desert are animals such as roadrunners, snakes, lions, etc. Another are plants, such as cactus, shrubs, etc. Some abiotic factors are soil, sand or dead biotic factors. The last thing is carnivores. This is an animal that only eats animals or meat.<\/p>\n

Luke has no idea that I am writing about him and sharing his work on my blog this morning but when I saw the images of his diorama I felt like I had to share. Proud grandmother and all.<\/p>\n

I wanted to share a few images of the birds and animals featured in Luke’s diorama and although I am a bird photographer I have zero images of Roadrunners in my portfolio. I will have to change that sometime soon.<\/p>\n<\/div>
