Wild Roses<\/h2>\n

While I am looking for and photographing birds I am also looking for other subjects to photograph and during the spring and summer that includes blooming wildflowers of all shapes, colors, and sizes. I especially like to take images of wildflowers that later on become bird food and these wild roses are just that.<\/p>\n

After the blooms fade on these bushes rose hips form that contain the fertile seeds that could create new roses can and do become bird food. I’ve photographed Sage Thrashers and Northern Mockingbirds eating the seeds that are inside the rose hips, I am sure that there are more birds that eat the seeds too.<\/p>\n

I don’t know if these roses are native or if they are introduced and have naturalized but perhaps with these photos and some expert help I will be able to figure that out when I have time. They might be native Wood\u2019s Roses<\/a><\/span> (Rosa woodsii<\/em>).<\/p>\n

As I photographed the blooming roses I saw a few birds flitting about but not in the numbers I see them in during fall migration. Perhaps if I had gotten to the rose bushes earlier in the morning I would have seen more bird activity.<\/p>\n

The wild roses, like many of the other wildflowers, don’t bloom for long so I am happy that I took the time to photograph individual blossoms and the top of one of the rose bushes this year. I hadn’t done that in the past.<\/p>\n

Life is<\/em> good.<\/p>\n
