Until three days ago I really haven’t taken any decent images of Lesser Goldfinches that weren’t at bird feeders but that changed when this one landed on a greasewood in front of me at Farmington Bay WMA. I was photographing a female House Finch on the same greasewood when this Lesser Goldfinch landed and caught my eyes, I quickly aimed my lens at this finch, locked my focus and fired away.<\/p>\n

From the dark markings on the tail I believe that this is an immature male Lesser Goldfinch but I am not 100% confident about that. Young birds can be tricky. An adult male also flew into the greasewood at about the same time but unfortunately another bird was in front of it and I didn’t have enough depth of field to get them both sharp and the out of focus bird was a distraction in all of the frames of the male.<\/p>\n

Maybe my luck with the species will get better. Who knows? I was happy to have this one in my viewfinder.<\/p>\n
