Any day that I can see a Long-tailed Weasel through my viewfinder is a good day in my opinion, so yesterday morning was good. The weasel ran east across one of the roads at Farmington Bay WMA and disappeared but made an appearance at the edge of the road in the tall grasses. The Long-tailed Weasel<\/span><\/a> stood up, looked around and then made a mad dash back to the west side of the road before I lost sight of it in the vegetation.<\/p>\n

I don’t see Long-tailed Weasels nearly as often as I would like to and have fewer photos of them than I would like to have.<\/p>\n

Looking closely at this image I can see that the weasel has begun to get its winter coat because of the white spots on its face and near its paws. Last year at about this time I photographed another Long-tailed Weasel in the same general area that had far more white in its fur than this one had.<\/p>\n

I hope I see and photograph more weasels this winter when they are in their white winter coats.<\/p>\n
