Autumn is the time of the year when Red-winged Blackbirds tend to form large flocks as they forage in fields and that gives me an opportunity to see adults and the young of the year together.<\/p>\n

I photographed this young male Red-winged Blackbird singing at the top of a Russian olive tree at Farmington Bay WMA<\/span><\/a> nine days ago.<\/p>\n

Below this bird there were more Red-winged Blackbirds, Brown Cowbirds and Brewer’s Blackbirds and a few sparrows that were tucked into the inner branches.<\/p>\n

Most of the birds were singing or calling and I realize this morning that I should have done a video to record how loud and lively it was at the time I photographed this immature male who was adding his voice to the birdy clamor.<\/p>\n

It would have been nice to share a video that captured all of the noise that these birds were making. I’ll keep that in mind for the next time I come across such a vocal flock of blackbirds!<\/p>\n
