Yesterday I shared a photo of a Northern Shoveler in a morning fog<\/span><\/a> and mentioned that I had also photographed a resting Ruddy Duck at the same location and this morning I decided to share one of those photos.<\/p>\n

We can’t see the bill of this Ruddy Duck like we could the distinctively shaped bill of the Northern Shoveler in silhouette but we can see one distinguishing feature that combined with my location, time of year and knowing that my subject is a duck can identify the species. That would be the duck’s raised, stiff little tail.<\/p>\n

To me this photo has a slightly different feel to it than the photo of the Northern Shoveler in the fog because I can’t see that the Wasatch Mountains were being reflected onto the water in this frame even though they were.<\/p>\n

On the right side of this Ruddy Duck photo I can see where the sun lit up suspended water particles which I did not have in the Northern Shoveler image I shared yesterday.<\/p>\n

I’m really glad I looked at these ducks in the fog and decided to take photos of them even though I was looking towards the sun instead of away from it like I typically do when photographing birds. I am truly enjoying how both of these photos turned out.<\/p>\n
