I photographed this female Blackpoll Warbler by the parking lot at Fort De Soto’s north beach in 2009 during migration. When birds fly across the Gulf of Mexico in spring migration during or following a severe weather event a “bird fallout<\/span><\/a>” can occur.<\/p>\n

That is what had happened that day. Birds were simply falling out of the sky and landing on the ground due to exhaustion.<\/p>\n

Luckily, I had just left my vehicle when I spotted her and when I reached the grass next to the pavement I dropped down to the ground and belly crawled up to her. I was able to take a nice series of images of this Blackpoll Warbler before I backed away to allow her to recover from her long journey.<\/p>\n

Life is<\/em> good.<\/p>\n
