Yesterday was supposed to be sunny and I felt that I had to get out and find some birds to photograph to remind myself of simpler times when going out into the field didn’t require hand sanitizers, social distancing, and worries about our global pandemic.<\/p>\n

I did find birds including what might be as many as five pairs of mated Red-tailed Hawks. Each time I spotted one adult Red-tailed and was able to spot another adult nearby I was delighted.<\/p>\n

That seemed to be a message for me that despite what is happening in the world right now because of the Covid-19 global pandemic, life goes on. Nature continues her cycle and just knowing that helped me, soothed me and was a balm to my spirit after a week of worries, concerns, a large earthquake and aftershocks.<\/p>\n

For a little while life felt “normal” to me.<\/p>\n

I found other birds while I was out and photographed a few that were cooperative including this calling adult European Starling in breeding plumage. It’s a simple European Starling image in what are complicated times and for me just looking at it is a respite from the news of the day.<\/p>\n

Being out yesterday felt wonderful but it also helped me to realize that I want to slow down<\/em>, enjoy nature<\/em>, and savor the birds<\/em> that I find. There is beauty, there is life and there is wonder in nature. I need it.<\/p>\n

Life… is<\/em> complicated. Yet life is<\/em> good.<\/p>\n
