Yesterday I had just a few moments to focus on a young Western Wood-Pewee that showed up in front of a thicket of hawthorns in the mountains. I was only able to take seven images of the pewee before it flew off, crossed a creek, and was out of my sight.<\/p>\n

I don’t find Western Wood-Pewees as often as I would like so when I see them I get excited when I have them in my viewfinder.<\/p>\n

The wing bars on this Western Wood-Pewee are a buffy color which is how I determined that is is a young, hatch year pewee. In an adult the wing bars would be more gray than buffy.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the morning I had another Western Wood-Pewee in my viewfinder but I had removed my teleconverter to photograph some Black-capped Chickadees that were so close I couldn’t focus on them with the TC on so my images of the first pewee didn’t show that one as close as this pewee was.<\/p>\n

Our Western Wood-Pewees<\/span><\/a> and other members of the tyrant flycatcher family will be leaving on fall migration soon. It would be lovely to have another wood-pewee in my viewfinder before they go.<\/p>\n
