When I saw this Ring-billed Gull perched on a wooden pole at Farmington Bay WMA last week I knew I wanted to have it in my viewfinder. I liked the partly cloudy sky behind the gull, the texture of the old wooden pole, plus the crisp looking plumage of the bird.<\/p>\n

I have a history of photographing other bird species on this particular wooden pole which include Bald Eagles<\/span><\/a>, American Kestrels<\/span><\/a>, and more. I’d photograph any bird I found perched on it. The pole is in a great spot to catch the morning light on it and my birdy subjects just right.<\/p>\n

The Ring-billed Gull didn’t do much except that it kept acting as if it was curious about something on the body of water on the east side of the road by craning its neck to the north. This Ring-billed Gull may have seen another gull over there, prey, or simply something else that caught its eye. I don’t know what the gull was looking at and I won’t pretend to know why it behaved the way it did but I liked the pose of the Ring-billed Gull and that was enough for me.<\/p>\n
