- Black-tailed Jackrabbits have black-tipped, long ears, long powerful rear legs, are dark above and light below and their tails are tipped in black fur.
- Black-tailed Jackrabbits are a common hare in western North America and the most widely distributed hare in North America.
- Black-tailed Jackrabbits do not migrate or hibernate during winter and are year round residents in their range. Black-tailed Jackrabbits prefer moderately open areas without dense understory growth and is seldom found in closed-canopy habitats.
- Black-tailed Jackrabbits eat shrubs, small trees, grasses, and forbs.
- Black-tailed Jackrabbits have 2 to 5 young in their litters and can breed from two to seven times a year in warmer southern regions within their range.
