Common Checkered-Skipper Images, Facts and Information:
Burnsius communis
- Common Checkered-Skipper butterflies are small, with a wingspan of 1–1.5 inches. Common Checkered-Skipper butterflies get their name from the checkerboard pattern on their wings; the male tends to have broader bands than the female. The body tends to be blue-gray with the small amount of “fuzz” which is seen in all skippers.
- Common Checkered-Skippers are found across much of North America, ranging from central Alberta and southern Ontario in Canada to central Mexico.
- Common Checkered-Skipper butterflies inhabit disturbed habitats, gardens, vacant lots, old fields, roadsides, and most other open spaces with low vegetation and some bare soil. They prefer areas with nectar-rich flowers.
