  • Eastern Bluebirds are small thrushes with bright blue plumage on the head, back, and wings. Males have a reddish-brown breast, while females have a lighter, more grayish-blue coloration.
  • Eastern Bluebirds are found east of the Rocky Mountains, from southern Canada to the Gulf states, and as far west as southeastern Arizona and into Mexico. They prefer open habitats like fields, pastures, parks, and golf courses, with scattered trees and little understory vegetation.
  • Eastern Bluebirds are omnivores, feeding on both insects and berries. They often perch low and flutter down to the ground to catch insects, and also catch some in mid-air.
  • Eastern Bluebirds are monogamous and they lay 3 to 5 eggs, which hatch in 12 to 14 days. Both parents care for the young, which fledge at 16-22 days old but remain dependent on their parents for 3-4 more weeks.
  • Eastern Bluebirds can live up to 10 years of age.
