Leiobunum vittatum
- Eastern Harvestmen (Leiobunum vittatum), also known as Daddy Long Legs, are arachnids with small oval bodies and extremely long, thin legs. They are not true spiders.
- Eastern Harvestmen are found throughout eastern North America, from southern Canada to the Gulf Coast states. Eastern Harvestmen inhabit a variety of environments including forests, meadows, gardens, and urban areas. They are often found in moist, shaded locations.
- Eastern Harvestmen are omnivores, feeding on small insects, plant matter, fungi, and decaying organic material.
- Eastern Harvestmen are also known as “harvesters” due to their tendency to appear in large numbers during harvest season.
- A group of harvestmen is called a “cluster” or “aggregation”.
- Eastern Harvestmen can live up to one year in the wild.
