Great Basin National Park Images, Facts and Information:

Great Basin National Park was established in 1986, preserving a diverse landscape that includes both desert and alpine environments.

The park, encompassing 77,180 acres, is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including ancient bristlecone pines, mule deer, mountain lions, bighorn sheep, and over 200 species of birds such as the golden eagle, mountain bluebird, and Clark’s nutcracker.

Great Basin National Park features unique geological wonders, including the stunning Lehman Caves and Wheeler Peak, which at 13,063 feet is one of Nevada’s tallest mountains. The park also boasts some of the darkest night skies in the contiguous United States, making it a premier destination for stargazing.

Within this park, evidence of human history spans thousands of years. Archaeological sites reveal the presence of Native American tribes, including the Fremont, Shoshone, and Paiute, who lived in and traveled through the area for millennia. Later, European settlers left their mark through mining operations and early ranching activities, traces of which can still be seen today.
